My 11 yr old just asked me if I read fanfic. Apparently some girl at her school was telling her about it and told her some site but K couldn't remember the name.

I am not ready for this(though i need to speed up my plan to take all of my fanfic off the main computer or find some way to lock it down).

I told her a lot of fanfic is adult and too old for her. (Hmm, i started reading my mom's romance books when i was 13 or 14. I'm talking some pretty racy stuff. Rosemary Rogers level stuff.)

I may try and find some gen type stuff for her though i bet me just saying 'too old' will make her really want to read the others.

I really don't want to send her to fanfiction.net.


ETA: When she first asked me about fanfic, I had to concentrate so I wouldn't start laughing. I am mostly on the amused side of things.

Something like this came up on Ask MetaFilter (http://ask.metafilter.com/229767/The-Ice-Kings-Turgid-Boingloings) awhile ago.

So maybe gently introduce her to a couple of fandoms (ones you're not active in), tell her to focus on the gen for a bit, and then she can explore on her own as she gets older?

there are LOT of very good team and individual fanfics out there about many fanfics. I know because it wasn't long ago that that was all I was reading. I have even written some team and individual G and PG rated things. But I also have to admit that I was 13 when I read my first Very racy romantic novel I hid between my mattresses so my mom wouldn't find it. Now I look at my two year old neice and think PLEASE don't let her grow up so fast! But they do...
just let us know what mattresses(sites) to look under for your writings please!
