Okay, I've had time to think and watch 'Free Fall' again and so now I will talk about the entire episode and not just that omgwtfpolarbear! ending.

First of all Neal looked hot as hell in the black coat and the black shirt and tie. I love how the clothes on this show are almost a character themselves.

I love Moz's and Neal's walk around the two mile radius that is Neal's leash. Moz and his rant against the man is hilarious.

Neal and Peter flirting on the phone is so cute! Neal flirting with the model(by the way, this weekend we were at Dillards and they had live models too! it was creepy and I was tempted to make faces at her)

I love that in most of these eps, when Neal flirts, Peter just looks on with a frown that is puzzled and kinda possessive. And in this ep, the way the sucks his lips in and shakes his head at Neal, the 'mnh mnh, now is not the time look' shows how much TD can do with his face. I kinda wanna make out with him. This feeling is not going to change anytime soon.

So I know we're supposed to be suspicious of Fowler but I swear after a few times watching this, he's so villain-like that I expect him to have a black mustache and for him to tie somone to the train tracks.

I love how Peter and his boss both talk about how Neal belongs to the FBI. This makes me want slave AU. I can't imagine why.*sarcastic eye roll*

Tulane was cute. Loved how Peter stopped talking at the thought of meeting Elliot Ness. Also I laughed at Neal being all fanboy with Tulane.

Agent Ruiz has lots of skeletons. I want him to come back. I love the actor.

Hmm, Fowler's records being sealed, his wife being killed during a robbery. Interesting.*takes notes*

Ha! Moz asking Neal about the necklace. Poor little thief boy.

Okay, when Fowler tells Neal he's under arrest and passes behind Peter, what is Peter doing? His eyes are closed and he's murmuring something to himself. Hmmm.*takes notes*

Awwww! Neal's arrest! How Peter won't meet his eyes, then insists on being the one to put the handcuffs on him. Then, did anyone catch the eye action? How Neal shoots a look at his coat and Peter grabs it to cover the cuffs? The slo-mo perp walk! Awww, I love these two so hard.

The Psyche commercial is friggin awesome. Lassi on drums for the win.

The color orange is not Neal's friend. Neal's eyes are very expressive. Lawyer!Moz is great.

Smug Fowler will have a big letdown. "Remember he's a criminal." Like Peter needed reminding. Asshole.

I wonder what Jails Neal keeps ending up in where he has a single cell.

Bakery buying Neal. And who's money actually bought that bakery? Moz's or Neal's?

I love all the details of Neal's escape and as someone else mentioned already, I love that Neal never asks Peter to get him out of jail. He does it himself, either because he knows Peter won't help him or he doesn't want to get Peter in trouble.

El showing up to support her hubby. Yay.

Neal winking at the judge before he escapes. Hot hot hot. Peter watching Neal escape(the half step he makes) and not going after him, even hotter. I also have named the arms out shrug Neal gives when he sees Peter as the 'fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, I gotta escape' move. Don't ask why. It's been a long night.

Love how Peter knew Neal wasn't in the van. The crack about wanted posters and roadblocks brings us back to the pilot when Peter tells the prison officials that you won't catch Neal with them. That he tells Fowler to use them is hmmm. Is he giving Neal time to prove is innocence? Or just dislikes Fowler that much? Or both?

Peter standing over the manhole, that shot that moves up his body. Unf.

Burke knows Caffrey better than anyone. That should be the subtitle of this show.

Neal calling El's assistant! Haaaaaaaaaaa.

El helping Neal sneak in. OT3 love! Neal's drawn out 'Peeeter.'

The convo Neal and Peter have and the similarity between it and their talk in the pilot.

Peter's sly not so casual interest in what this mystery guy wants from Neal. The, 'then give him what he wants.' Hmmm *takes notes*

Neal has several Driver's license's and Peter knows this. I love Neal's disguise of black hat, black jacket, and black sunglasses.

Yay, teamwork on finding out how Tulane got in.

Peter and Neal's convo about a pretty face being the downfall of Tulane; Neal: What?
Peter: You know what.
Neal: No, I don't.
Peter: Yes, you do.

So who hired Tulane? Fowler? As a way to get to Neal and to Peter? Or Kate? Or Peter?

Peter telling Neal he'll drink champagne out of the paper cup and like it plus the earlier scene of Neal sitting on the floor almost at Peter's feet makes me want fic.

Okay, Fowler mentions 'Mentor' so is that a code name or the name of the operation?

Neal's woobie face after Fowler says he didn't bug his phone. Man, that look makes me want to bake Neal lots of cookies.

Kate, who looks like El, and Peter. That scene. And Peter is wearing the ring. And looking super fucking hot. I only noticed in the last scene that Peter's hair seems darker but I think it's just because of the lighting. Did I mention how hot he was? And that I think he's Batman?

That ending is still tripping me out.

And below is where I talk about my non spoiler speculations that are wild and all over the place. Seriously, at some point I mention Space cowboys.

I really have no clue. I woke up Saturday morning thinking Peter is playing some kind of deep game. If he has the ring, then he and Kate have been in contact since the pilot ep. Is he playing Neal? Or keeping Kate from playing Neal?

What does he want from Neal's stash? Why not ask for it? Or is it all a ploy and he doesn't want anything? The fact that the op is called 'Mentor' makes me think maybe Peter is 'mentoring' these thieves to turn them into what Neal is becoming, a poweful tool for the FBI, or a powerful tool that he can use how he sees fit. Ever since the pilot, Peter has been willing to stretch the law if it gets him the results he needs.

There are many remarks made about Neal 'belonging' to him or to the FBI. At this point I'm not even sure Peter is FBI. He could work for another gov't agency. We know more about Neal than we do Peter.

Also! My first thinky thoughts had me wondering if all these cases were a way for Peter to test Neal. Yes, he knows all this stuff about Neal, but he never worked with him, never got to see how Neal worked and thought up close and personal.

So keeping Kate from him showed Peter how Neal juggles the job and trying to find Kate all with the tracer on. I don't know if this theory works, but Peter is really good at playing someone he's not as we saw in the previous ep where he played bumbling cop and recorded the women talking about him.

Someone else pointed out that it can't be coincidence that Kate and El look so much alike. I and others have noted how much El and Neal look alike too. I wonder if El has any clue as to what is going on. Both El and Peter have said they don't keep anything from each other and El seems to know as much about Neal as Peter does.

In conclusion, This show that was candy turned out to be more filling. I applaud you show for making me thinky but not for giving me a dream where Neal and Peter showed up in the Firefly Verse.

Mal was all for keeping Neal so they could all pull off scams together and evade Peter or you know, both Neal and Peter joined Serenity for a short while. I won't mention the fact that Neal and Simom Tam look alike. *whistles innocently*

So yeah, I plan to watch all the eps again and look for clues.

Neal is rather pretty for gen pop (re: him having his own cell), but I bet he conned his way into it; those guys managed to let him escape after all.

And if Peter isn't FBI? He's got to be CIA. That would explain a lot actually. And it makes me wonder, because as you said, if El knows everything? She's got to be something more too, yes? If only someone who knows things they legally shouldn't?

Or, ooo! Time for my crazy theory:

Peter and El are really working for something else (or someone else), and are themselves conning the FBI, and they're onto them.

It would explain how Peter came to know so much about how Neal operates.

I'm thinking he conned his way into a single cell too.

I like your CIA theory and yeah I wondered too if El's cater thing is a front. Boris and Natasha and then that would make moz and Neal, moose and squirrel.

I like your 2nd theory too. Is it January yet? Can I get the ep early as a Christmas present?

I wonder what Jails Neal keeps ending up in where he has a single cell.
In the pilot, they refer to it as a SuperMax. It isn't because Neal wouldn't walk through the prison laundry in a SuperMax, but all SuperMax prisons are one cell per prisoner.

Maybe it's just a SuperMax wing?

Ohh! Thank you! I do remember the Supermax term being used but I didn't know that that's what it meant.

OOh I'm soo loving all your theories! I am also glad to know i'm not the only one who's head was spinning so much after the ep that I dreamed about nothing else. This show is so going to drive me crazy.

I think this show is going to drive us all nuts. Either from Neal being too pretty or the slashy vibes he and Peter give off.

I don't trust Kate. I think she is scamming Neal. I think Peter probably found her right away and that is where the picture actually came from. Or Peter has a twin.

I don't think Peter is dishonest. It would be bad writing on their part to do that this early, that is unless they only plan this to be a one off.

Yeah, I don't think Peter is evil either. I think the most logical thing is Kate scamming Neal which I think he might suspect since he won't just give up the location of his stash.

The only other thing I think may be going on is Peter needing something that Neal stole and needing it for a bigger case?

my mom used to actually be in the FBI's white collar crime division and if Peter is actually from another govt branch and undercover in the FBI that would be serious high lever pedigree shit. and my personal theory is that whoever hired Tulane isn't very relevant. i think peter framed Neal once he had the signature thing confirmed because Neal was bringing to much close speculation down on Peter, i mean the equivalent of IAB focusing on him was defendantly a lot of heat and he probably knew neal would figure a way out of it. i am a fan of evil Peter theory just because i think it would be a ballsy choice for the writers.

also my mom's wife used to be a prison guard and told me that while people are awaiting trial, like Neal was this ep, they stay in jails not prisons. and jails are more likely to have single cells because they house less people and people are always filtering in and out there. (and neal is so pretty he may be on the 'protected population' list.)

I am a really bad fangirl (missed *every* rerun of Free Fall) so I'm glad to get a rundown of *what* I missed.

Also, is there such a thing as an ep download that'll work with my painfully slow dial-up connection or do I just have to wait until they start pre-season reruns?
