Omg, I think my hardcore Trekker soul has been reawakened. From many years ago, I still have ST books, manuals, crew and ep recaps cards and a model ship(okay the ship is gone. It melted after my mom stuck it in a closet that had a heating vent in it)

*Pulls out my Trekker geek card*

I have Star Trek plates somewhere people.

About a year ago I was unpacking this stuff and looking at it like one might look at dinosaur bones and I said, "Wow, I didn't think I was this big of a Star Trek Geek." My hubby just looked at me in pure amazement and I could clearly read the 'she's nuts and all that Star Trek stuff in our old apartment didn't clue her in?' look on his face. I then reminded him of all the Star Wars stuff he had and he stopped looking at me with pity.

I really liked it. I need to watch it again and again.

Kirk- CP did a great job. I went from 'hmm, he's okay looking' to 'he kinda looks like Kirk' to 'HOLY CRAP HE LOOKS AND ACTS EXACTLY LIKE KIRK WOULD.' The scene where he's making out with the green woman? And he has on nothing but those boxers?

Rowr, helloooo future Captain. I kept waiting for him to do the classic Kirk move of using his feet to kick someone. He took getting beat up really well.

Spock- Awesome and the resemblance to LM was kinda creepy at times. I loved young spock and I loved 'I just aced my exams and you can take your Vulcan Science Academy invite and suck it' Spock and I loved Spock and Uhura. Oh my god did I love it. They were making out on the transporting platform.

Umm, suddenly I want mirror-verse bearded Spock and Uhura with the skirt and the knife and they're together and bad ass and I'm a puddle.

I remember reading in a Star Trek book that discussed the characters and situations that while Nurse Chapel liked Spock, Uhura was actually a better fit for him. I have no clue what happened to that book, but it made me want U/S soooo bad back then.

Now it's on the big screen and I want to just drown in it and watch them make out and try and not make out and just be there for each other. I already joined Spock_Uhura this morning so I will be checking it out later.

Sulu- Was awesome and when he and Kirk and the guy that should have been wearing a red shirt were all diving to the drill I kept wondering how it was going to work.

Captain Pike- Loved him and I loved that all the main characters had the characteristics and the 'look' of their older counterparts.

Chekov- Hee! A puppy! He's so cute and curly. You know when they go on shore leave, Sulu has to watch out for him and make sure he isn't kidnapped or something.

Scotty- Was brilliant and goofy and I loved him so much. There needs to be massive Scotty fic. On the original show didn't Scotty have a still in engineering? Or was that a book? Or just in my head? This scotty? Totally already has the still up and running.

Uhura- There was a time in my life that I wanted to be her so bad. I used to read all the behind the scenes stuff on her and I need to check if Nichelle Nichols has a autobiography because I need it right now. This Uhura was brave and fantastic and smart and knew it. She wasn't afraid of crap and I loved the tenderness she showed Spock and that she wasn't hesitant to do that. I loved the scene where she finds out what ship she's on and confronts Spock. *fangirls her hard*

Sarek- Did they clone some people? He looked a lot like Mark Leonard.

Bones- I loved him. He was grumpy and hilarious and I never noticed or paid attention that he's older than Jim. I loved him saying he liked Spock and then later asking if he was out of his Vulcan mind. Where are my tapes with the episodes on them? How much are the DVDs? I need mah show!

USS Enterprise- She looked great and I loved the engineering section and the bridge and the shuttlecraft! Hi wee shuttlecraft! I loved the scene where she appears out of smoke to rescue her Captains. This is the ship that Kirk will sacrifice for and die for and live for.

Plotty Plot- Hmm, I kept waiting for them to fix the whole 'let's fuck up the Vulcan home planet and kill most of the Vulcans' stuff and was surprised that they didn't. Oh, man. So this is alternate reality time and they're okay with that? Though the part where Kirk was trying to be nice to the crazy Romulan guy and Spock was all 'WTF?' made me giggle.

I need to think on this some more because one of my fave eps is the Sarek and Amanda show when they show up on the Enterprise for the first time. And crap, now I want fic where Amanda and Uhura talk about loving men trained not to show emotion. Oh they've got it but it's buried deep, and Uhura and Amanda talking would be the ultimate.

All in all I'm happy with it but that commercial that declares that this Star Trek is this generation's Star Wars needs to go away. No, it's this generation's Star Trek. No need to try and drag SW into it. Star Trek can stand on its own.

Am at home with youngest today. She's got a fever. Her viewing choice? Justice League Unlimited DVD. Yep, raising the next generation of geeks is awesome. She cracks me up because she knows who Sam and Dean are and will ask me when she sees them on TV, "Is this supanatuwal?"

I'm having to restrain myself from going to see it yet again so I get your glee. (I've gone twice already.) I *may* also be planning on stopping today and getting the novelization as well.

I'm not sure I could have been classified as a ST geek when I was younger but I definitely am now! Everything about this movie made me happy and bouncy. (And made me want to do Kirk in the worst way, but that's a whole other topic.)

I love the shiny new fandom feel and squee.

I will be getting the book this weekend. I didn't know it was out so thanks for the heads up.

Kirk was hot! He is a total Star Trek cadet slut.

Omg, I think my hardcore Trekker soul has been reawakened.

Yes! This! I had no idea how much I missed TOS until I was waiting for this movie to start and I couldn't sit still.

I was surprised by the Uhura/Spock, but I am totally for it. I watched the TOS ep The Man Trap on Netflix the other day and Uhura was totally flirting hardcore with Spock and he was all WTFuncomfortable! And it made me grin and squee.

I also was thinking it was odd that there was going to be such an obvious age difference between Bones and Kirk because I remembered them as all being the same age, but they totally weren't. I have this wild urge to go out and buy the TOS DVDs and watch them all over again as an adult.

Though the part where Kirk was trying to be nice to the crazy Romulan guy and Spock was all 'WTF?' made me giggle.

I loved that! And when Nero was all, "I would rather die a thousand deaths yada yada!" and Kirk's like, "You got it." *love*

Uh, sorry to squee all over your journal. *sweeps squee under the rug*

Hee! The squee is fine. I will definitly be looking for my old TOS tapes I have somewhere from when I went nuts and recorded all the eps when Sci-Fi first showed them uncut.

I loved Spock so much in this and Kirk was awesome and hot and trying to be a captain but wanting to have sex with all the wimmens he saw.

Yep, both Spock and Bones are older then Kirk and I adore that. Though Spock doesn't count as much considering. But McCoy's canon was always that he went through med school, got married, had a kid, got divorced and had an early mid life crisis and joined starfleet. Which is why I love him. He's like Hawkeye in space, only having his commission (which if you watch carefully in the movie it's already a Lt. Commander b/c of the extra degrees) b/c of the Dr. in front of his name. *glee*

I love Bones. He cracks me up with his grumpiness and his many shots of medicine.

I saw it yesterday for the first time myself.

*squee*

I thought it was mostly good. I'll be making my entry into the hive mind later today.

But, yeah, all my latent geekiness came pouring out.

ETA: TOS episodes are available on iTunes. I've gotten the ones that mean the most to me in the last couple of days. *G*

Oh man it was good and I loved seeing them all. Now I want a crossover with the other timeline or something.

I have most of the three seasons of TOS on VHS somewhere. I will be digging them out this weekend while my hubby laughs at me.

There were so many moments where they pulled dialog verbatim from somewhere else and I almost DIED because he did it perfectly. Like the "Spock! It'll work." *swoons*

Umm, suddenly I want mirror-verse bearded Spock and Uhura with the skirt and the knife and they're together and bad ass and I'm a puddle.
*dies*

Chekov- Hee! A puppy! He's so cute and curly. You know when they go on shore leave, Sulu has to watch out for him and make sure he isn't kidnapped or something.
You are TOTALLY TRUE. I loved McCoy's "Oh, good, he's seventeen."

The DVDs are RIDICULOUSLY expensive, but apparently there are entire episodes on youtube? I haven't investigated this rumour for myself, 'cuz I've had the DVD sets for about two years now, but it'd be a good way for a quick fix. Want me to see if I mem'd the post someone made with links? (I know they also have everything but TNG on iTunes for download, so if you ahve favorite episodes, you can get your hands on each one for just a couple bucks).

I STILL can't believe they destroyed Vulcan. I mean come on! It's VULCAN! I kept expecting them to fix it, too. Time travel, after all.

I also really loved that Kirk's father's death had such a completely believable impact on the course of Kirk's life. The fact that in non-AU land Kirk joined Star Fleet straightaway like the overachiever he is, and was given the Enterprise himself on her maiden voyage. And that a Kirk who never knew his father BECAUSE of Starfleet became a total juvenile delinquent and instead of already BEING a captain and taking command of his ship by then, he had a liiiittle catching up to do. ^_^ It was well played.

*needs to go play with all the actions figures that still live in her closet*

I need action figures. And those glasses Burger King is selling.

I loved juvie Kirk too.

I kept expecting the planet to just show back up because that is how Vulcans roll.

This is my favorite review so far. And I think a lot of it is because you did RIP APART Spock/Uhura. I Loved that like crazy, and there are so many people that are so angry with it.

No, it's this generation's Star Trek. No need to try and drag SW into it. Star Trek can stand on its own.
Thaaank You.

Man I loved Spock and Uhura and her complete understanding of what he needs and being there for him.

And at the same time we know she kicks butt in her own right.

Right after I saw it I came home and pulled out my TOS DVD's to show to my almost 4 year old. The movie just relit all my Trek love, the movie was great but TOS was great and I want my son to appreciate the beginning so when he finally sees the movie he can see where it's both different and the same. Because Trek is for every generation.

Can I just say word? I wasn't as big a ST geek as you, but I dearly loved the old series and the movies and this reboot just makes all that old love spring back to life.

I am 99.9% sure Scotty had a still and it was mentioned on the show or in at least one of the movies.
