He and Eric S actually were living together for years and still may (it's kind of hard to tell, most rumors say yes but who knows).
The beard, er girlfriend thing came up after a) GE "overslept" and then had to grovel to get his job back; and b) after a not so blind item pretty much outed GS and ES as making out publicly at some party after the Golden Globes in Feb (end of Jan?). Of course, such items are not necessarily truthful - just obvious, and likely to cause panic in the PR office no matter whether GE is gay or not.
And that's my turn at the table for rumor-mongering. ;)
